Orchard celebrates more funding success

Volunteers from our orchard group have been celebrating this week after the news that not one but two further funding bids have been successful.

Last week, we had confirmation that our application to the Big Tree Plant has been successful, securing £650 to buy a variety of fruit trees for the orchard. This week, news arrive that a bid to the Community Tree Fund has also been awarded funding, giving us another £520 for apple and pear trees.

The money means the orchard now has all of the money needed to buy the orchard’s 150 fruit trees.

Orchard volunteer Paul Dart said: ‘It’s not just about the money. Each successful funding bid also gives us confidence that we are doing something that others find worthwhile. I find myself walking up to the orchard fence during the week, looking over and thinking ‘I did that’.

The orchard volunteer group meets on the last Sunday of every month at the Farm. To join us, or for more information, get in touch with Kate (07912 327936; fortyhallfarm@capel.ac.uk).
