Friday 17th May saw around 40 volunteers from the company Dunnhumby descend on to the Farm.
The group worked on both the Vineyard and the Orchard as part of ‘Give and Gain day 2013’, a nationwide event organised by Business in the Community. They spent the morning working hard in the Vineyard, helping to mulch the hungry vines ready for a summer of grape growth (we hope!)
With all that work in the morning, and with the ground being especially hard, we wondered just how much work would be completed in the Orchard. Volunteers dug turf, moved soil, shifted wheel barrows of stones and fixed planks of wood. Team work was in evidence and the group were determined to succeed. By the end of the afternoon, the Orchard’s footpath had been extended to its full length.
We are very grateful to everyone from Dunnhumby for giving their time and effort so cheerfully and helping our projects. Their work would have taken our volunteers months to complete. We also learnt from watching them organise themselves, seeing how a business responds to a challenge.
A final thank you also goes to Paul at the Farm whose dumper trucks of gravel saved many wheelbarrow trips!
